Taken together, they tell an amazing story of the pain of the closet and suffering involved when people lie about their sexuality to the public and to themselves. I just finished watching the two new documentaries that came out about Whitney Houston. I recommend both, especially the Halford book, which explains in compelling detail what it’s like to be a closeted gay heavy metal god (hint: not fun!). I just finished reading Rob Halford’s new autobiography Confess, which was amazing! I also just read Andrew Ridgely’s book about Wham and George Michael, a charming and inoffensive book, light as a feather like Wham, a fun read. Meanwhile, I have been reading everything I can on music videos and other related subjects.
The working title is New Wave Apocalypse: A Queer Journey Through 1980s Music Video. It will probably take a few years until the book comes to publication. This past summer I wrote a rough draft of a 12-chapter manuscript and, as much as time allows, will chip away at that until it is revised and ready to send to a publisher.
This is because I have been focused on researching and writing a book on this subject, building off of these essays and trying to connect everything together in a succinct, smooth narrative that will appeal to college students as well as general readers. I have not posted any new essays or posts in a long time.
